Montezuma Yoga is housed at Hotel Los Mangos, right on the outskirts of the charming Montezuma village community. Guests have the opportunity of practicing yoga in the spacious and airy wooden pavilion that overlooks the ocean and listening to the naturally enchanting sound of the surrounding oceans, birds and Costa Rica’s signature howler monkeys. The classes here are open for all levels and are conducted in English.
Dagmar Spremberg – Montezuma Yoga is the brainchild of Dagmar Spremberg, originally from Germany. After leaving her country in 1996 she shifted base to Los Angeles, where she began studying and practicing yoga. After re-locating to New York she strengthened her studies and trained with Anusara instructor Elena Brower at Virayoga NY. She came to Montezuma in October 2001 where she began teaching yoga and conducting yoga retreats with the Hotel Los Mangos. Dagmar is a 500 hour certified RYT with the yoga alliance and also an Anusara inspired instructor. As a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in NYC she combines yoga with her other role as a certified Holistic Health Counselor.
Silvia Eriksson – Silvia is a native of Switzerland and has lived in Copenhagen, where she was inspired by a spiritual community to embark on a Hatha Yoga study and practice 8 years ago. When she realized her devotion for nature, art and the sea in Montezuma four years ago, she decided to make it her base. She trained with Jackie Chiodo, and became a YA 200hr certified Yoga Teacher. Silvia teaches alignment based Hatha flow, as well as Restorative Yoga. She is also a trained aesthetician, specializing in holistic natural skin care. Silvia currently lives in Montezuma, and her happiness lies in helping people explore a sense peace through the disciplines of yoga, health and art.
Lucy Hamel (Guest Instructor January Through May) – Lucy has been practicing yoga for the past two decades and teaching for the last six. Her training began in Athens, Greece with NYSY Studios, studying Hatha Yog, Anusara and Bhakti Flow with yoga instructors such as Vivi Letsou, Rusty Wells, Noah Maze, Todd Tensen and Martin Kirk. She adds to her class her knowledge of almost two and a half decades as a personal trainer, sixteen years as a Reiki practitioner and seven years as a breath worker. Lucy prefers spending her summers working in Greece enjoys Montezuma in the high season and has been a guest yoga instructor at Montezuma Yoga since January 2012.
Open – This is a conventional vinyasa class for all levels that connects movement and breath in an inspiring meditative flow.
Bhakti Flow – Bhakti Flow is a Vinyasa based class that focuses on core work and balance.
Donation Yoga – This is a give as much as you can class. All proceeds collected from this class are channelized towards Yoga In Montezuma’s local recycling project.
Candlelight – This is a relaxing slow flow class peppered sometimes with live music from the hang instrument, played by Daniel Gautchi.
Yoga in Momtezuma Retreats
Montezuma Yoga organizes group retreats with celebrated yoga instructors at Hotel Los Mangos. The property offers a choice of accommodation in 10 rooms and 9 bungalows in a striking mango plantation area overlooking the ocean. Guests can let their hair down by the pool, watch howler monkeys swaying from trees, walk to the famous scenic Montezuma waterfalls or enjoy horseback ride along the coast.

They help yoga aficionados select the ideal location, organize day to day affairs, help market your retreat and coordinate everything to run everything efficiently here for you. All you have to do is get the students and teach. Their main location for the retreats have been Hotel Los Mangos but Montezuma Yoga are also open to facilitating retreats at other new resorts according to the specific requirements of their customers.
